I was over the moon to be asked to take part in the virtual 'book tour' to celebrate the release of My Crochet Wardrobe by Cassie Ward. I've followed Cassie @themissingyarn on Instagram for a while and am a big fan of her designs. If you're a regular reader of UK crochet mags you'll be familiar with her beautiful work. Cassie's designs are easily recognisable; classic and wearable but with a modern fun twist. I love her use of texture and colour to make simple but unique and on-trend garments.
My Crochet Wardrobe includes 15 garment designs using a variety of different techniques. Great for beginners and also more experienced crocheters, there's a pattern for all tastes and skill levels.
I opted to make the Josie top first. I love the boxy style and lace panel detail. I thought this would be a lovely light top for Spring using a cotton blend yarn. I used King Cole Finesse DK (click here for my yarn review blog post) but you could use any dk yarn that works to the same tension as given in the pattern.
There is a really useful Yarn and Materials section at the beginning of the book which makes it easy to choose your yarn. I was able to select an alternative using the recommended yarn info.
The book has lots of really helpful detail throughout. There's a nice overview of crochet stitches with diagrams and instructions on tension, blocking and joining.
One of the things I really liked about the book was that each pattern has really clear measurements, a schematic and chart as well as the line by line instructions. This made it super quick and easy for me to follow the pattern and make changes as needed for sizing.
All patterns are written for sizes Small to XL. If you're a confident crocheter wanting to make a bigger or smaller size you should find it fairly easy to adjust the pattern. I decided to make a slightly smaller version of the top to make it more fitted for me. This was really easy to do using the chart as a guide to simply adjust my starting chain. I also adapted the pattern to make a child's size version for my little girl.
The pattern worked up really quickly, was easy to follow and I'm so happy with the result. I cant wait to wear my Josie top this Spring and look forward to making another design from the book very soon.
My Crochet Wardrobe has a great selection of really well designed patterns and I'm sure you'll enjoy the book as much as I do, the only problem will be choosing what to make first!
