The Teddy Cowl is a quick simple knit and a great project for beginners. It works up really fast using super chunky yarn. A hexagon blanket is a great way to show off an ombre effect yarn. Worked in the round using just 2 stitches throughout, this pattern works up fast and creates a lovely small blanket using just 2x 150g balls of yarn. I used the King Cole Curiosity DK in Mother of Pearl but you could substitute for any dk yarn you like. Using a gradient yarn means so need to change colour so it works up super fast! Finish with optional tassels or pom poms to each of the 6 points to finish. Pattern written in UK terms. Tension not critical but may effect overall size and yarn quantity needed. I'm really into upcycling at the moment. Every old plant pot and jar has been used in the garden this Summer and I struggle to throw anything away that could be re-used. I'm so happy to be able to share my latest pattern! The Madison Shawl is a design I first started working on last year. I had recently finished designing a scarf for Your Crochet and Knitting magazine using a similar stitch pattern and wanted to see if I could adapt that into a triangular shawl. It took me a few attempts, the first of which I was hooking up on the train to Yarndale back in September, so it feels great to have it finally have it finished and looking just as I hoped! I've recently started working on a 4 ply version with some of the beautiful merino from Irish Artisan Yarns that I picked up that same day. I'm really excited to see how it works up in a lighter weight yarn. The shawl is designed using just under 200g of dk yarn with a 4 mm hook but this could be adapted to suit your choice of yarn. This simple star motif uses cotton dk yarn and basic stitches to create a pretty coaster set. Inspired by the classic granny square and worked in the round; each central star is bordered with treble crochet clusters to create a ‘granny stripe’ effect.  Notes Pattern written in UK terms Tension not critical for this project but should be consistent throughout. We love spotting all the rainbow decorations people are hanging in their windows at the moment. My little ones made some simple cardboard rainbows recently which inspired this quick and easy crochet pattern. I hope you like it and have fun spotting the rainbows in your local area. You can use any type of yarn you like with a hook size to suit. I've made these in dk yarn with a 4mm hook and chunky yarn with a 6mm hook for a slightly bigger cloud. For the fluffy textured look I used vanilla truffle yarn from King Cole held together with a cream acrylic dk to make it easier to see the stiches. The tassels are made from leftover scraps of 4 ply for the smaller cloud and acrylic dk for the larger size. Spring Petals Bunting This pretty floral motif is worked in the round using 4ply cotton. Inspired by Spring blossom, this design uses bobble stitches to make each delicate three dimensional flower. The lovely team at Darn Good Yarn reached out to me recently and asked if I'd like to try one of their DIY Pom Pom kits . I was intrigued as I absolutely love the look of these faux fur poms but have never tried making one myself. DGY are well known for their beautiful recycled yarns but they also do really a nice range of kits and patterns too. The DIY pom pom kit contains everything you need to make 2 faux fur poms poms including step by step instructions, 2 faux fur circles, spheres for stuffing, snap fasteners and even needles and thread for sewing. When I first got my hands on the new  Paradise Beaches DK range from King Cole I knew I had to make a blanket! The dk acrylic blend is available in 8 solid colours in a beautiful pastel rainbow colour palette. The acrylic polyamide blend is soft, washable and perfect for garments and accessories. These cute little bunnies are quick, fun to make and are a great way of using up your yarn scraps. Make them with or without the hanging loops to make your perfect Easter decoration. I originally designed these for Simply Crochet magazine last year using 2 contrasting strands of cotton 4 ply yarn held together. Pictured above is Stylecraft Classique Cotton 4ply (100% cotton 50g/182m)1 ball of each in Sky blue (3667), Fondant (3094), Soft lime (3663), Lavender (3673) and Sunflower (3662) You can also use 1 strand of dk yarn instead or go chunkier with a larger hook to make a bigger egg.
